Katelyn Rickert

College Choice: Louisiana State University
College Major: Nutrition and Food Sciences

As a newer member of the Class of 2024, Katelyn Rickert felt welcome from the moment she arrived in 9th grade. When asked about her top choice for college, she wrote, “I felt at home at LSU which is the same feeling I got when I came to McGehee, so I knew right away that LSU was perfect for me.”

Katelyn has diverse work and volunteer experience, demonstrating a strong commitment to community involvement and skill development. Among a long list, she has interned as a PT assistant, served as a social media assistant, and served as a camp counselor at McGehee Summer Camp. She founded and led the Hawk Health Club, organizing meetings and activities to promote health and wellness. Katelyn conducted an independent research project on the effects of diet culture on adolescents and also volunteered as a student ambassador at McGehee. She also shadowed professionals in naturopathy and physical therapy, gaining insights into holistic wellness.

Her volunteer work includes volunteering at Grace at the Green Light, Habitat for Humanity, and raising money for organizations like Smile Train, the Leukemia Lymphoma Society, and Second Harvest Food Bank.

When asked about an inspirational faculty member, Katelyn wrote, “Ms. Fallon holds a special place in my heart as she has been my advisor since sophomore year and has always been communicative and open to the feedback I have given her. I believe she knows me the best out of all my teachers and has always had my back through the years.”

Katelyn’s favorite McGehee tradition is May Day. She wrote, “As a sophomore performing in front of my big sister class, May Day was a moment I will never forget, not to mention all the work everyone put in to make it memorable for the Class of 2022, so I am really excited to see what our little sister class has done for us!”

This senior believes that because of McGehee she is ready to take on any challenges college throws her way and concluded with, “These past four years have given me my best friends, an amazing education, and the ability to find out who I really am. I am so excited to graduate and carry on everything  I have learned at McGehee into my life outside of it. McGehee will always hold a special place in my heart.”
