BIPOC Students Teach Teachers, Staff, Administration
March 29th, 2021
A powerful presentation.
The March 24th full faculty meeting focused on a powerful presentation by several of our high school students, who provided insight into what it is like attending McGehee as BIPOC. Nine Upper School students (Lynn-Chi '21, Tirza '21, Jordyn '21, Lilliefaye '21, Camille '21, Corinne '21, Kendall '24, Nadia '24, and Amaya '24), under the guidance of teacher Cara Peterson, shared examples of language and behavior that can make students of color feel alienated. These passionate and articulate McGehee Leading Women conveyed what could be perceived as microaggressions in a variety of circumstances. Following the girls' presentation, faculty in all divisions, as well as staff and administration, met in small groups to continue this important conversation.
(Several of our presenters had to leave prior to the group photo.)
