Lower School's Hawks With Heart gathered for the second time this year for a service opportunity that includes Lower School parents and students. Tuesday evening's family service night was a great opportunity for our families in Grades Pre-K through 4 to come together, engage in meaningful service, and strengthen connections while supporting those in need. Families participate by donating food supplies or donating time to help pack lunch bags for these community refrigerators. This week's gathering resulted in 95 sandwiches, helping to stock two community refrigerators.

The Pre-K Ladybugs have been learning about book care rules, like hugging books while walking, turning pages gently, and cleaning hands before reading. 📚 To celebrate, they checked out their very first library books! Each girl chose her own book and carried it back to the classroom. We can't wait for their next library visit!

Our French IV-V students welcomed special guests Theresa and Clara Bengoa, personal friends of our very own Juliana Elias '26! Originally from New Orleans, the Bengoa family moved to Arras, France, nine years ago. The class dove deep into the unique differences between high school and university life in France versus the U.S., comparing everything from daily routines to cultural norms—all en français, of course! 🇫🇷🇺🇸 Our students were fully engaged, asking fantastic questions about the journey of learning a new language and what it's really like to live as an American abroad.
Merci, Theresa and Clara, for bringing a slice of France to McGehee! ❤️

Today, on Veteran’s Day, we honor and pay tribute to two extraordinary members of our faculty for their distinguished service to our country.
Anna Tom, Little Gate Indigo Pelicans Teacher, served as a Staff Sergeant in the Air Force as a munitions technician. Over her eight-year career, she maintained and delivered missiles, processed bullets, and managed countermeasures for aircraft. Anna supported both A-10 aircraft and F-15 fighters and served in Hungary, England, and right here in New Orleans, where she assisted with recovery efforts during Hurricane Katrina.
Sarah Noland, Little Gate Tinker Teacher, served in the Marine Corps as an Engineer Equipment Electrical Systems Technician. Her critical work involved troubleshooting and repairing electrical systems, electric motors, and motor control circuits, along with maintaining mobile electric power generation equipment used in the field. Sarah achieved the rank of Sergeant before being honorably discharged.
We are deeply grateful for their service and dedication. Happy Veteran’s Day to these two leading women and to all those who served our country!

This morning, McGehee was buzzing with excitement as the Saints Cheer Krewe (formerly the Saintsations) made a surprise visit to campus for Black and Gold Day! The cheer team energized the girls with cheers, dances, a lively second line, and even a spirited tug-of-war showdown between faculty and the Krewe. Louise the Hawk joined in the fun, adding an extra dash of McGehee pride. Best of luck to the New Orleans Saints as they take on the Atlanta Falcons this Sunday—Geaux Saints! 🖤💛
