PK Girls Model Gee's Bend Quilters

February 8th, 2021

To continue discussions and ideas from the school wide Martin Luther King Day assembly, PK girls in Ms. Robinson's and Mrs. Steinfeld’s class are learning more about black artists. The class started with the quilters of Gee's Bend, Alabama. The teachers worked with art teacher Sarah Wiseman to borrow resource books and fabric, and watched interviews with the quilters from this amazing small town. They have quilted for generations and their quilts now hang in museums like the Whitney. These girls planned their quilt patterns and then each girl made her own quilt with fabric and glue. These ladybugs have decided they want to try sewing next so the plans are underway for making patterns for stuffed animals.
