All About Me

October 2nd, 2020

Pre-K girls have been hard at work on a project to help them learn more about themselves and each other. The red ladybug class read many stories on the subject including, We are Alike We are Different,  We are Beautiful, The Colors of Us, and I Like Me. The girls journaled about how they are alike and how they are different, with wonderful responses, such as, "we all wear masks and we all all have hair", to "we all wear different color jumpers", and "we have different color hair." They created their self portraits by painting their canvases with their very own mixtures for skin tones. Students all started with the same basic mixture and then added colors to find their perfect shade. Using mirrors, the girls examined their features, creating their self portraits a step at a time. The Purple Ladybugs explored self portraits with loose parts. They read Faces by Zoe Miller and David Goodman. They followed by creating self portraits with loose parts, which provide many experiences for children to be creative, curious, and imaginative while working in fine motor development, focus, and hand eye coordinations.
