Rangoli at Main Building Entrance

February 21st, 2022

In celebration of Mardi Gras, the Anthropology students have assembled rangoli at the entrance to the Main Building. Rangoli is a form of ornate ancient Indian folk art in the form of geometric patterns, religious symbols or floral designs that is most commonly displayed during Diwali (the festival of lights) but can be observed at other important celebrations as well. The word "rangoli" is derived from the Sanskrit word "rangavalli" and roughly translates to "rows of colors".

Traditionally, rangoli is a decoration drawn on the floor or the entrances of homes. It is thought to bring good luck, prosperity, happiness and positivity.
