Dia de Muertos Ofrenda

November 2nd, 2022

The Anthropology class partnered with the 8th grade Spanish students to make sugar skulls and decorate an ofrenda (altar) in the front office for our celebration of Day of the Dead. Day of the Dead (Dia de Muertos) is a holiday celebrated throughout Mexico, in particular the Central and South regions, and acknowledged around the world in other cultures. The three-day celebration (October 31st – November 2) focuses on gatherings of family and friends to pray for and remember friends and family members who have died, and help support their spiritual journey. Traditions connected with the holiday include building private altars called ofrendas honoring the deceased using sugar skulls, flowers and the favorite foods and beverages of the departed.
