Gold Pelicans Celebrate Diwali

The Gold Pelicans celebrated Diwali on November 13th, India's biggest and most important holiday of the year. Diwali, named after the row of clay lamps (diyas) symbolizing inner light, is significant in warding off spiritual darkness. Ashwin and Tina Vilkhu, Iyra's parents, were invited to share a Diwali story with the Gold Pelicans. Each child received a personal diya to paint, courtesy of the Vilkhus, who graciously shared their family culture.⁣

Founded in 1912 and located on a one-of-a-kind campus in the Garden District of New Orleans, McGehee is a private, independent, all-girls pre-K, kindergarten, elementary, middle and high school.
