This senior joined McGehee’s Class of 2024 as a freshman and fit right in. She commented, “McGehee has given me a voice and pushed me past my personal limits so that I am able to exert my best self.” As a member of the Varsity Volleyball and Track & Field team, these words also hold true.

This year, Amaya Kincaid is co-chairing the Diversity Club. She has been a member since she was a sophomore and writes, “I work with my co-chair to educate the importance of diversity in our community. We do presentations year round to groups like the upper school, faculty, trustees, diversity committees and students. We plan fundraisers that support small black owned businesses and spread how important it is to support small businesses especially if they are minority owned.” For the last two years Amaya has attended the Student Diversity Leadership conference in San Antonio, Texas and said the following about her experience. “SDLC focuses on self-reflecting, forming allies, and building community. It is led by a diverse team of trained adult and peer facilitators, and participating students develop cross-cultural communication skills, design effective strategies for social justice practice through dialogue and the arts, and learn the foundations of allyship and networking principles.”

Amaya has great regard for two faculty and staff members in particular, writing, “Ms. Zitt and Ms. May (Moses) were two faculty members that were constantly by my side throughout everything. If I was having a bad day I could always count on one of them to cheer me up and I will forever remember and miss them.”

She considers Big Sis, Little Sis her favorite McGehee tradition and wrote, “My little sis, Indiaah Grant ‘26, is forever my mini me.”

Amaya heads to the University of Houston this fall and plans to study marketing.
