Hayden Porter
College Choice: Arizona State University
College Major: Computational Mathematical Sciences
Hayden Porter joined the class as a sophomore and settled right in as a McGehee girl. About her Upper School experience, Hayden remarked, “McGehee has taught me significant time management skills that I know will be incredibly useful for college and my future. I also think the honor code is a great preparation for college because it prepares us to take responsibility for our own actions and it teaches us to truly do the right thing.”
Since 2008, Hayden has pursued a passion for competitive dancing. As a committed member of Loren Fenerty’s Dance Factory Performer’s Edge Competition Team and Dancers Only, LLC Competition Team, she has consistently given her all and achieved success. In other extracurricular pursuits, Hayden has been an active participant in various clubs. Her involvement in Girls Learn International, the Green Club, the Diversity Club and McGehee in Motion are just several examples of her interest in the greater community.
She had this to say about a couple of her teachers at McGehee. “Mr. Waguespack inspired me during my years at McGehee. His positive teaching style guided me to choose my college major which is Computational Mathematical Sciences. Ms. Zitt was also a very special teacher. Her genuine love for anthropology made me love the class just as much. I became so interested in Anthropology because of her.”
Her favorite McGehee tradition is the Junior trip to Washington D.C. trip and she mentioned one particular night as a standout in her memories.. “On the trip, there was a night where our whole grade had a class bonding night. It was so much fun and really brought our class closer together.”
When Hayden toured Arizona State University, her love of the atmosphere and innovative course offerings were the determining factors that influenced her final college choice.
