Nadia Jones joined McGehee’s Class of 2024 as an 8th grader and jumped right into everything! A great athlete and student, she earned several McGehee scholarships during her first two years, receiving both the Abby Shaw Nalty (given to a student who has the qualities of leadership and is a dedicated student and athlete), and Mary Ed Norwood scholarships (given to a student with outstanding personal qualifications.)

Throughout Upper School, Nadia has served as a peer support leader, advising and guiding each eighth grade class for their transition into high school. As a leader her senior year, she is serving as Senior Class Secretary and is President of the club Jumpers & Skirt, a student-led initiative for mentoring BIPOC students, connecting our younger students of color with upper school girls who serve as mentors and role models.

A terrific athlete, Nadia has earned numerous honors and accomplishments, as a member of the volleyball team and the track and field team—the Division 1A 2023 and 2024 State Championship teams! At the May 2nd State Meet at LSU, Nadia was named State Runner Up in the 400 meter. Coach Western commented, “Nadia is a quiet leader yet an integral part of every team she is on. She is a terrific mentor to younger girls who trust and respect her.”

Nadia credits McGehee for pushing her past her limits to pursue her passion for college and her future career, and she thanks former, long time faculty member, Carolyn Thompson for “helping her comprehend and share our love for a subject and its importance to society.”

As for her favorite McGehee tradition, it’s Big Sis, Little Sis, and the special bonds created.
