Stella Lowenstein
College Choice: Tulane University
College Major: Political Science
About her time at McGehee, Stella Lowensein remarked, “My McGehee experience has allowed me to grow confident in the classroom and develop my critical thinking skills. Through discussion based learning I have learned the value in listening to other people's perspectives and understanding the way they view life. Also the intense focus on service learning here at McGehee has benefited my understanding of the world we live in and has taught me valuable skills of how to create productive change.”
Of her inspirational teachers, she wrote, “The teachers who have inspired me the most throughout my years at McGehee have been Ms. Thompson and Dr. Cresson. Former history teacher Ms. Thompson got me through sophomore history and Junior AP Government, and she was one of the teachers who really taught me the value of thinking critically and understanding perspective. Dr. Cresson has been my Chemistry teacher for the past two years and has always helped and encouraged me to be a better version of myself, and taught me that I have the ability to always improve.”
Stella is torn between two favorite McGehee traditions commenting, “My favorite McGehee tradition is either May Day my sophomore year or Senior Pageant my senior year. I found both of these to be great bonding experiences for my class, and when I look back at them I remember all the fun we had together.”
Stella Lowenstein joined her class for high school. This year her yearlong senior mentorship was just one part of her coursework that kept her very busy. She is excited about her college choice of Tulane University, where she was accepted early decision. She wrote, “I really love the academic flexibility Tulane has to offer as it's easy to double or triple major or even change your major. This is a factor that was really important to me when choosing my college as even though I currently have decided on Political Science as my major, I don't know what I want to do in life yet and have a feeling that I may end up changing it.”
