Track & Field State Meet

February 22nd, 2023

In a historic day for McGehee, the Hawks placed 4th overall amongst Division 2 schools at the State Meet on Saturday. The team was led by Kali Magana ('24) who was crowned state champion in the 400 meter run, in a time that shattered the standing D2 indoor record. Kali also placed third in the 60 meter dash, and anchored the 4 x 2 team (Idia Dennar '27, Songoli Dennar '27, Nadia Jones '24, Kali Magana "24) which placed 3rd on a day that saw the fastest performances in high school history in this event. Also earning points for the team was the 4 x 4 team (Idia Dennar '27, Songoli Dennar '27, Nadia Jones '24, Kali Magana "24) finishing 5th and also anchored by Magana. We are also proud of our 4 x 800 team which placed 10th and included Virginia Lovell '28, Lesley Williamson '28, Idia Dennar '27 and Mary Claire Leckert '28, who ran her first race at the state meet in a cast after breaking her arm in the first week of practice. Much appreciation for Captain Nadia Jones, who mentored and helped this very young team bring the heat to the championship meet. As always, thank you to Coach Kristin Depp. We are also grateful for the experience and professionalism coach Derek Mills (parent of Jazzy Mills '20) brought to the team and are excited to see what is to come in the outdoor season! Thanks also to Coach Jason Rouser who raised the bar for our team. Congratulations Hawks!
